Let's step back and ask ourselves this question: how does one participate in pub sing? are they asked by the ED? are they asked by the MC? do they have to ask ED or MC? is it in their contract? moving right along..... I think the joust had a soundsystem up on the throne as near as I can tell. either that or the announcer was really loud, but none of what he said made any sense. remember Bryan? he came out on the field as Lord Marshal on a horse with a baton in his hand (craftily concealing a wireless microphone) I always thought he did a really good job both talking about jousting and doing it himself. does anyone remember when he and a lady did gaming jousts the first two shows and the combat joust was at 6pm?? They tried to catch the rings with the lances and the girl with the braided horse tail beat him the show I was at. It was really neat plus I had to come back later and see the combat joust too. not to mention he was good eye candy as for my husband. I asked him what he thought of faire since he didn't go last year. All he had to say was that it was totally way better than two years ago. I think he thouroughly enjoyed himself this year.

I for one respect all opinions, but I'm concerned about how some of those have been expressed - a few have come across to me as harsh and judgemental (okay, you can accuse me too of being judgemental in saying that!). Please let's stick to what this thread was meant for - constructive criticism and not slamming. Negative breeds negative - criticism can be delivered positively and with an intent to inform and influence.
Regarding pub sing, I certainly did not see P&S as dominating the scene, any more than any previous MC did. They open the pub sing, as others have said, leading into the performances by other acts, and every single night we had many performers join them as has been done for many years. Remember too that they did what they were asked to do - they don't just "wing it" and act out of ego. Regards the verse Richard sang of Health to the Company, at just about any pub sing I've attended anywhere that song is done, that verse is allocated to someone other than the main singer - I've seen it done many times. In fact, if you've seen Owain do it before, you'll notice that he doesn't sing that particular verse, and he offered it to Richard as a gift.
And to further support Porter and Stout, I really enjoyed their shows, a good mix of beautiful and roudy (MACINTYRE!!!) and my only complaint should have been expressed to them up front, that the guitars too often overtook voices in the previously mentioned sound system. And the music Richard composed for the storyline is beautiful and poignant and should be recorded in all haste!
Okay, I'm done now.

I want deep fried pickles!!!!!!! And, actully, I DID have several patrons request them as well! Since I'm not exactlly in a position to set up a deep fryer, and they DO seem to be the new fair/ carnival thing, don't suppose we could look into getting some?!
Back to the point of this thread, I know a lot of the cast really hated having to do those little 'commercials', and I heard a few patrons commenting on them being tacky as well.

Ok. I was going to stay out of this, and not respond to any of the comments. (well, I really did mean to anyway) But I do have to comment on the Meagerie thing. From what I know from talking to them. They are doing what they want to do. Play in the lanes. Especially near the gate at the end of the day. They make most of thier tips and CD sales for the day those last couple hours as people are leaving. So I don't think they have any interest in pub sing right now. I do know they mentioned wanting to do one stage show a day next year if they come back. But that they still prefered to stay mainly in the lanes.

I think this thread is a great idea, Just to Clarify a lot of things:
EMuzeki did not wish to be in Pub Sing and Negotiated that way.
Menagerie told me last season they wished not to do pub sing and wanted to be at the gate playing during that slot. Again this season it was said they would rather do this and I agreed.
Porter and Stout were the staple act of Stumble and as such I felt it was fitting they host it.
They tried like crazy to get other acts to participate and I finally had to remind some of their contractual obligations
When they did not have acts they had an hour to fill and did so pretty effectively I thought.
Due to the fact that a former director let the training program be a little loose in seasons past, some street characters, who did not wish to put the work in that I expected, did leave us. Others stepped upto the plate and hit home runs. But such shows as the chess match, Robin Hood Escapes, Peter Pan, and Gate Scenes. Did take alot from the lanes.
I put Owen on the Stumble because he was a partial run act and that was the stage that had the partial run acts. I personally would like to get rid of the tipping bell all together.
Robin Hood ---we started this season with the same Robin Hood as last year. Due to personal reasons he had to quit. Andrew I felt did a great Job.
I would like to give a big Kudo to Richard Brentar who during this season's run was performing nine shows a day. Along with writing the music and lyrics for the scenario, richard also was the man in charge of the Tinker camp, and the music Director of the show.
Programs and Brochures I don't have much to say about but a partially done brochure was submitted in December. I am critical of the lack of program because the show was a very solid show and deserved a program. Not to mention the damage it does to stage acts when the show times are not given out.

Thanks for the info John! I can only imagine how difficult it must be trying to coordinate everything. I've been chatting with some folks from the staff of the Pittsburgh faire and it's amazing how much effort is required to put a faire together. It was another great season at GLMF

This is primarily directed at Dillasandra...What the hell are you talking about in reply #32? Why would anyone want to deep fry a pickle? In my opinion they are best when eaten cold and crisp! A deep fried pickle sounds too hideous to even think about!
And why was the cast having to do commercials, and for what? I hope not for deep fried pickles! HANK.

I have no idea about "the commercials" either they were never instructed by me to advertise anything.

Okaaay, weird! The commercial bits, that is. I had a couple of cast complaining to me that they were supposed to hawk shows, CDs', and vendors while going about their business in the lanes! NO idea where it might have come from......but one young man was actully talking about not returning next year because of it, so I took it seriously. And Hank, about the deep fried pickles....I've heard about them for several years now, and I read about them fairly frequently in resturant reviwes around here....they seem to be a new fad. Never actully TRIED one, though I'm curious as all hell, and will just as soon as I run across one! Granted, they DO sound weird.....but then, I had the same innitial reaction to deep fried cheese, and deep fried oreos, and I LOVED them! Besides, you know me - I'll try ANYTHING once! ;D ( Okay, well, maybe not THAT.......) ;D ;D ;D

I noticed a lack of music in the lanes. That is something I always liked about GLMF. I saw the piper in the lanes, but no other musicians that I recall. We were set up all day in the middle of the shire playing! We went to the front gate around 5:30 & stayed until closing. Where were you?!
