So, guys, I've been made dance captain this year. With this in mind, come join us dancing, it's fun! I have put together a comprehensive step-chart thingy of all the dances that we peasants do, and figured it wouldn't hurt to get it out here for any playtrons who wanted a reminder of how to do the dances (or wanted to learn them) before dance season started. If anyone wants a copy, send me a message or comment on this thread and I'll email you the word file.
Cast: don't worry, I'm printing out a bunch of copies for y'all to give you this upcoming weekend. In the mean time, head over to the cast board, I'm just going to post the dances there in a thread for you guys.
Lei.

Well, maybe I will actually participate this year.
I think I may actually remember a few steps I picked up in previous seasons.

Y'know what, ultimately I'm lazy, and if one post will do it rather than me having to remember to email however many people the same thing however many times...
(also because I just finished re-formatting my word document so it would make some kind of sense on the board. It's prettier in word, though)
I'm just going to post all the dances here, for all you non-casty people. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask me. I'll do my best to explain over the 'net. Without further ado, I shall now post the key to what the heck all these dance terms mean.
Slipping: rhythmic gallop-like step to right or left
Palming: put ____ hand up facing partner [do NOT touch palms!], circle with partner for 8 counts in way you are facing.
Arming: put ____ arm up and grasp near partner’s elbow, circle with partner for 8 counts in way you are facing.
Siding: put ____ arm out in front of you and regally pass your partner back-to-back follow extended palm around to turn and re-face partner [each part takes 4 counts]
*the three above moves (palming/arming/siding), you always do LEFT before RIGHT. Sometimes these moves are split in half (between left and right) and other steps are done before completing*
Turns: L means you turn over your LEFT shoulder R means you turn over your RIGHT shoulder *all turns are done on a 4 count*
SBC is ‘step ball change.’ To do this, you: [count for a SBC is a bit tricky, see me in person if you need help] SBC Left hop left and put weight on left foot step back with right foot step forward with left foot
SBC Right hop right and put weight on right foot step back with left foot step forward with right foot
*when bowing is in a song, you always bow on the EIGHTH count, i.e.* 1 – 2 – 3 – 4 – 5 – 6 – 7 – BOW

Ah, Brunhilda, you made me chuckle with your mis-naming a dance that I love. Gathering PEASCODS (olde-speake for peapods), not PeaceGods, although that presents a lovely picture! We SCAdians often naughtily call it Gathering Codpieces....hmmmm.
Hey, if this is open for playtrons, you KNOW I'll be a-dancin' with you now and then. Although you do a few things a tad differently from how SCAdians do, I'll pick it up quickly.
Keep up the great work!
Hawise, your erstwhile dance coach

O proud left foot, that ventures quick within Then soon upon a backward journey lithe. Anon, once more the gesture, then begin: Command sinistral pedestal to writhe. Commence thou then the fervid Hokey-Poke, A mad gyration, hips in wanton swirl. To spin! A wilde release from Heavens yoke. Blessed dervish! Surely canst go, girl. The Hoke, the poke -- banish now thy doubt Verily, I say, 'tis what it's all about. -- by "William Shakespeare"

Eeeh, Hawise, Gathering Peacegods, Gathering Peascods.... potatoes, potahtoes. [That doesn't seem to work too well over text.] There was a time when I thought it was 'Gather In Peace, Gods' so feel fortunate I figured out the first word, neh?
And we would be honored to have you dance with us!

Gather in Peace, Gods!!! I like that best of all! Granted the starchy and proper John Playford who first documented that dance probably wouldn't laugh, I love it! That'll be my new name for it hehehehe.

Most of the dances that we learn actually have their own music to match to, so it's a bit difficult to translate it over the 'net. The good thing is that every dance except for Gathering Peascods is in a straight 4/4 tempo - so find anything that has a decent beat to it and you can practice away.
Now would be the PERFECT time for me to plug the dances and tell you where and when they'll be, but unfortunately I haven't been told that yet. ^^ However, I *will* post it up here as soon as I know. I highly encourage you to find us during one of our dance sessions and I'll be absolutely ecstatic to teach you the dances.
