Thoughts on second weekend? Mine are hot. Hot Hot Hot Hot and sticky. That sums up a lot of it. Cast were still playfull in the mornings, but by the end of the day, most cast, vendors, and paytrons were pretty drained. I was sorry to see so many cast in the first aid tent as well. Hopefully most have learned their lesson. Saturday, I had family in the shire. Spent about 5 hours as tour guide so I didn't get to play as much. Though I did get to introduce my wife to a lot of people who had never met or seen her before, and probably were starting to doubt she actually existed They had a wonderful time though. Loved the shows we saw. Hack and Slash, Chessmatch, Merry Men Fight Show, Ded Bob. They did a little shopping, and enjoyed some of the food as well. All around, had a great time, though the heat got to be too much and they left around 4. Got a little pucking done one Sunday, and saw some great stuff at the jail which I will post about later. Overall a good weekend for us, though I don't want to see it that hot again. I was again disappointed by the crowds, or lack there-of. But I also learned there were a lot of other things going on this weekend. That coupled with the heat might have kept them away. Next weekend is supposed to be cooler, and it is Celtic weekend, so hopefully we pack them in.

Temperature in the 70's would be a blessing. I nearly passed out during parade this past weekend.
Thank god for Trevor. He yanked me out, and force fed me water the rest of the day (though I needed it)
Where would I be without him?
I have three words for days like that. WATER WATER WATER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Never had a problem with it before, but I learned the hard way on Sunday.

you could get tap water and ice in your mug for free if you asked.
Ice helped a lot.

OH What a weekend with the heat but at least got to see the chest match on Saturday. Tried to do Hack and Slash on Sunday for their first show but noway so we went over to the Crows Nest area and Stumble Inn and saw Zoltan and the spaghetti contest again. I just couldn't believe Hank and SSG got up there. Hilarious! Hey Trevor John has some good pics if you didn't see it happen.
Between Sir John and my "brother" Dave the Pirate and everyone around did okay on the water. We all kept checking on each other.

OOPPS forgot to mention seeing Cy. It was nice to see you walking the lanes again and talking to you.

Ooh. Found my account. Neat.
Anyway. Yes, Trevor, I'd say HOT safely sums everything up for the weekend.
The good things that have come from that, though, are enough to balance out the horrible dizziness that accompanied it for one and all. We have so many amazing people in the shire, and days like yesterday just prove that twice over and again. Who knew so many of us were really mother hens in disguise? I don't think I've ever had quite so many people pushing ice, water, air, and shade on me in one day before, nor ever been so grateful for all of that.
That's really the biggest thing that struck me.
And this seemed like the best place to be able to send out a universal THANKS to everyone who looked after all of the suffering, suffocating cast members this weekend. We really, really appreciate it, and there I don't mind talking for people other than myself. It was a rough weekend.
I also saw some amazing street work from lots of people, too! There, and for everyone's entertainment, it was a marvellous weekend. I saw so many smiling people in the lanes (when they weren't busy dying or somesuch) that it made it all (almost) worth it. The crowds may not have seemed terribly large, but they've been good crowds-- not by size, but by temperament. It's been nice to have great people; always preferable to great numbers, when it comes to what matters.

Seconding Olga/Legs' comments! I love faire people so much. So very helpful (and frighteningly mothering on occasion!). I got scolded so many times. D:
I've got to give a big thank you to the pirate guy. (I'm so sorry! You've told me your name a couple times and I keep forgetting it; I've just always thought of you as "flirtatious pirate uberpatron". Names are so hard when you can just call everyone "m'lord" and "m'lady". . .) He went and got me a couple beef sticks from Olive when I realized it was my sugar crashing that was the problem and not dehydration. You're amazing and saved me from having to go home or get out of costume or go to the hospital or something like that.
(First aid people tried to make me go home anyway. Bah! Not happening! Besides, my ride home is Alan a Dale's truck.)
Simon - yes, the lemonade stands will fill up your mug with free ice. I've gotten ice at so many of the stands now that if I walk by and look a little droopy I get asked if I need more ice!

In other news - street work was actually pretty decent, at least in the first half of each day. Lei/Brunhilde and I walked behind the Nastonians singing the Nastonian National Dirge - I mean, Anthem, making it up as we went along. Oh, it was awful! Funniest thing I saw: the Sheriff in the stocks, with Baron von Spudnik standing next to him with Mitsi aka the Nastonian Hunting Weasel. I sort of stared and asked what the Sheriff was doing in the stocks. They explained that they'd trained the Weasel to sniff out Merry Men. Then she sniffed out the Sheriff. By process of elimination, they deduced that the Sheriff must be a Merry Man. The sneakiest, most cunning ever, apparently, because he'd even fooled himself! Crowds were still very thin. Hopefully next weekend there'll be more.

I was lucky enough to be in the jail area around that time. You should have seen what he had to do to get out of jail.

Oh, now you've got me curious! I had to move on once the jail show started; cast aren't supposed to watch shows. What happened?

Well, lets see. The Frau was also jailed for some reason, thanks to the Pooka. She had to woo both the other jailors. Which was pretty funny.
Then the sheriff had to dance like the princes dancing girls to get out of the stocks. He did a hilarious job of dancing while still staying very true to character. I haven't gotten to those pics yet, but I am hoping they really convey what was going on.
Also, somehow Prince John got locked up also (again, I think the Pooka had something to do with it) He had to woo the pooka to be released.

I saw a very funny bit where Sketch fended off the Sheriff with a twig and the Sheriff's own hat! Hysterical!
