Since many of you are not Myspace users, I want to be sure to pass on my latest blog. Users on this forum have been part of a special group of friends at GLMF, and I want to make sure that you know that you are not only included in my post, but that you are an important part of it. Thank you all for being our friends during our many years in Avaloch. Sorry it is so long, but what less can I say:
What a wild celebration! Patti and I were overwhelmed by the love that we felt from everyone at Great Lakes Medieval Faire this year. Suddenly, given this task of moving on from the most incredible twelve year journey, we were faced with the knowledge that our path had been altered by things set in motion months before we even knew that Avaloch existed. We have been led along a winding path filled with magic and wonder, love and hugs, joy and pain. What we never envisioned was the inevitable coming, and the pain and the glory of the celebration.
During these last eight weeks our minds were forced to process wonder, sadness, guilt, fear, happiness, love, emptiness, fullness, love, loss and incredible gains. We were treated to and bombarded by countless emotions that reached depths that we could have never imagined. It is impossible to explain these feelings and their impact on us.
After days of heartwarming comments, parade stopping surprises, heart wrenching songs, breathtaking hugs, gifts of love and words that reached inside us and will be with us forever, I felt that it was important that you all know this.
Truth be known, the celebration was not about Patti and Mitch. Even though we have been blessed to have had the most incredible people like Jim, Kris, Jean, and Susan Minor who helped us through our years, it was not even about just Griffin’s. As so many of you embraced us and declared us as people who have brought much to Avaloch I realized that although it was true that we did bring something very special to Faire, there was much more to this celebration. Yes, we truly succeeded in giving you a place to feel welcome. We gave you our friendship and love. We gave you a way to dress up and play together. We always tried to give you smiles and hugs. We were credited to have even given a few of you a mate. I actually heard that we once gave hope when there was very little. I was told that we changed lives. Above all we continuously gave you each other. I am thankful for the opportunity to have helped to do this.
In the end, you came together to become the true magic of Avaloch. It is truly the greatest celebration, and you can believe that you are the true reason to celebrate. Yes, each of you, the entertainer, the patron, the vendor, the child, the friend, the family, the village, the miracle of our many years there. It became glaringly obvious to me that what we are really celebrating is the miracle of what we have all become.
To all of you we say “Huzzah!” We celebrate you. Above all, we love you.
