These are real turkey leggs That have been smoked, that is why they are red looking just like smoked ham. Larry buys them this way. They still taste good, just doesn't fit in a pipe. Now Friar Pluck's may have fresh turkey leggs soon., it will have a different flavor.

I just googled smoked turkey legs for images and yes, they look just like the ones at the faire!

has anyone ever gotten down to the bone? when I had one I just got layer after layer of meat. I got too full to finish and never got to the bone.

No never could. Let alone the faire legs. I really prefer the neck bone. Enough turkey meat along with fixings. Plus maybe a piece of dark meat.

Long ago...before John Davis and Tom L were known to the masses at TN. Our then King would hire the turkey leg vender to roast an Emu and the Royal and Noble courts would feast in grand style at least one day of fair...and then after they finished the peasants and fae had a go....during the feast, many patrons would be given a taste and don't recall even once, some one in cast not getting to eat unless they choose not to eat....All this to say, one Emu would feed anywhere from 40 - 80 people depending on the cast.
All this to say two things, NO way are you buying emu legs for just one or two people to munch on and if you have ever eaten emu, it has a destinctive taste like any turkey I have ever had....I almost want to say it has a gamey taste like venison...but not quite that strong... I tend to agree with the earlier comments of older birds and possible on steriods! Yum Yum
