Hello everyone! Hope each and every one of you are well! Looking forward to seeing everyone soon. Is it just me, or are they not having any jousters at the faire this season? Allyn

I'm not sure if they can pull a joust out of their anus in 2 days. The company listed on the website, EmoMojo, Just posted that they will not be returning to joust this year. It's Thursday. Opening is Saturday. Here is the quote from the owners personal FB page-
"Hey to anyone who is interested. After 7 years, I'm sorry to announce that my company will not be jousting at the Great Lakes Medieval faire. Due to scheduling issues, budget concerns, the number of shows per day, the lack of percieved value and respect, (I've been told time and again that the joust is not a draw, they can get a circus act in and no one would care) It is basically not in the companies best interest (financial or philisophical) to be there. We are gonna take this time to rethink, reboot our business plan and what we really want to achieve... and spend some time with the family at the beach lol. to the GLMF cast, Good Luck, break a leg. A special thanks to Jeanette / Lady Ophilia you are a true professional in a tuff spot,. Thanks for trying. to our fans. Thanks we will miss you, but look for us in Rome Ny come August and some things are in the works. No Worries we are not finished."

Well, if what guest posted is true....yeah, it's gonna be kinda tough to find a replacement joust troupe in two days. So maybe we can have a D.I.Y. joust.
We already have the Highland games where patrons toss rocks and phone poles and they seem to enjoy it. So maybe we can get the patrons to be the jousters. NOW! Since most folks coming to faire DON'T bring a horse with them, I propose an idea I saw on "WORLD'S DUMBEST"
A group of kids were jousting using shopping carts. Two of the kids would ride in the shopping cart while being pushed toward each other by two other kids and try to uncart the opponent with a long stick. Since no one had any armor nor shield I would imagine the injury rate was quite high so I suppose we should get the participants to sign waivers.
I think this would be a quick, low cost way to assure we have some sort of joust. All we need do is "borrow" a few shopping carts from the Sprawl-Mart parking lot, and get a good supply of long sticks, and willing participants.
It's a shame the pubs are closed as I am sure large amounts of beer would more than assure a vast field of willing participants. ;D
HANK.

It's true. I saw it on the owner's personal FB page. I wonder what's going to happen...No joust at all? Or just not one for the first weekend or two?

From what I understand....The Medieval Weapons show has been substituted for the joust. Heard attendance to the joust was dropping and I guess they decided to try something new. It was a conscious decision...not something that was forced

Hello Capt! This is what I had been thinking awhile ago. They said something about, This season we'll show that the Field of Honor is for more than just for jousting. Well Capt, looking forward to seeing you and everyone else...Joust or no Joust, Cheers Allyn

If gaining an informative demonstration on archery and potentially more demos for other stuff is what we get in exchange I am happy to make the trade.

I just came back from the faire.. The sword guy in the entrance of the faire, with the shiny bucket of swords is retired (bummer), the guy that made the pewter mugs passed away (horrible) and NO replacement (not acceptable), NO man made rides (disappointing), the pubs only selling sodas, (good sodas, but they shouldn't be advertising, if they don't sell)... the main ale building now selling fruit crap (appauling), and NO JOUSTING?? My stepkids have never been to a midevil faire EVER, they are 14 and 11. I pumped them up for all the wonders that I had when I was a kid. They had a blast, but I was disappointed that NOTHING was there... I will go back, but now my expectations are lowered.
On a better note, the food was still fantastic, and the vendors were still the same as I remember years ago when I attended as an early adult. I now know what to expect, and my fantasy (besides the food and entertainment) are gone. But at least the kids had fun. That is really all that matters anyway.

Well, i'm going to be honest here... None of those changes were anything recent. All of those things have changed quite a while back. And the faire is continuing to evolve. Vendors do retire, performers change, acts break up and/or reform. And, unfortunately beloved friends do pass on. And because of those changes we also have been blessed with new acts, new vendors and new friends. But again, the important point is that the kids enjoyed the day and I am glad that happened. There is still magic in the place thanks to those that put the effort in. As for the alcohol sales...i honestly prefer the place without it. I got I little tired of dealing with patrons that overindulged.

Yes, I miss the jousting too... It was so medieval. Another thing I miss, that I can't get over: I'm not much of a drinker, but it was good to get a nice cold one WHEN there really were pubs,---when the end of the Faire was PUB SING. "Finale In Song" just doesn't have that ring to it.

"Finale In Song" just doesn't have that ring to it. I don't know of any regulars that call it anything other than Pub Sing.
