Project Avaloch Volunteers for 2012 will be starting shortly. We walked around Site yesterday and did a casual inventory of what may need to be done. We are looking for carpenters, painters, grounds work (raking leaves, picking up sticks/trees, pulling weeds, etc.) General clean up & set up. If you are interested in helping this season, please contact Brett Hall or myself, Kat. We may be reached here or on my FB page through a private message. www.facebook.com/#!/tomnaboley We may also be reached through the Faire office once it is opened. (Do not know when that will be, at this time.) We will keep you posted for the date and time when we are ready to start. Thank you in advance.

My o my...the time flew, I imagine not much damage given the very mild vintner!

There are quite a few branches/limbs down. We had some very bad winds out this way.

I was worried about trees being down. As saturated as the ground has been since fall, coupled with the high winds, that was a perfect recipe for trees to uproot.

When I find out the exact weekend we will start I will post the info.
There were a couple largish trees that broke. The ground is very wet and mushy.

Keep in mind i heard that with this years weather the summer is expected to be very buggy... so stock up on sprays, nets, candles, and lavender... whatever it takes!

I didn't check a weather channel or nothing like that. I went to the Farmers Almanac website. What with the mild weather we had here all winter (especially for OH) the insects never truly "froze out" and as a result they didn't really die, so a lot of people are expecting more bugs as a result. You may have also noticed that a lot of birds didn't bother to fly south either, i think they were just confused and gave up!

Ah....there were fleas in our backyard till nov! Our vet mentioned all the rain and mild temps brought out the insects. Grounds have been frozen,,,,I kept praying all the insects would freeze to death . I dont know about you ,but l don't mind a froze yard, we all need a break!

Well Trevor (reply #5) you were right to be concerned. Took a walk around the place today. No trees came down at the roots, but quite a number of them snapped off higher up. There is a tree down on the bakery roof. No structural damage, but will need to be cleaned up. A tree down on the Stumble Inn. Roof damage there. A tree down on Bill's place behind Stumble. No damage. A tree THROUGH the roof on the lemonade stand across from Friar Pluck's. And tons of branches litter the grounds everywhere. Most of it in Old World. Hell, if Larry started a business selling firewood he would make a fortune.
So anyone doing clean-up this year, sharpen up your chain saws, cuz they will be getting a workout.
HANK.
