I saw so many people having a great time all around the Faire. so much positive energy all around.
To Countess and kayla We miss Squirt as well, But they had personal issues that kept them away, and I have heard they miss all of us just as much

As we close in on the end of the faire season, I have a few more thoughts to add to this thread.
I'm liking this season. IT has a bit of a different flavor from seasons past. Like Hank keeps saying, it's like Eureka. Most things are the same but there are just a few things a little off this year. And I think that is good. Keeps things fresh.
Parade continues to sneak up on me. Being only 2.5 hours after opening gate, it still seems way too early for me. I like the end of the day scheduling. It gives us options on what we want to do, and keeps the whole faire a little more active until the end of the day, instead of having just one area packed with people.
One thing that is annoying me though. Trash cans. Seems like there are never any where you think they should be. There are some in the area, but never really any right where they would seem to make the most sense. Down by Frier Plucks for example. You get food, you go to the tent and eat. When you are done, you want to throw your trash away. But where are the trash cans? You can go all the way back down to Plucks (right in front of the middle of the building) or you can go all the way up to Broon's stage. I have noticed that elsewhere as well. I know they are a little short on trash recepticals thanks to many getting run over over the years. But I think a little more logical placement could improve things a little. I know that doesn't help much this season, but might cause a bit of re-thinking next year.

I have to disagree a bit with your one statement about them being short of trash receptacles because of them being run over through the years. If indeed that is the case no one has brought it to my attention. And since I am the "metal repair guy" out there fixing them would not be much of a challenge. Hells Bells, I've fixed that gazebo twice, and it was squished like a bug due to trees falling on it (two years ago) and from trying to support two tons of snow this past winter. I've also seen NO "burial ground" where old trash receptacles go to die. (remember...close to 150 hours on clean-up earlier in the season) and you KNOW they scrap NOTHING out there, they just hide it behind the scenes.
I DO agree they are never where you need one. If you buy a banana at Black Ox you have to go all the way to the glass blower lane before you are able to throw the peel away. The "Trash Trolls" are doing a fine job as they have little to haul with at the end of the day. (dump truck is down) so all they have is a little cart to haul bags in to take to the trash dumpster.
Did we have "Privy Fairies" this year? I can't say I every saw any. But on those occasions when I had to use the privies I will have to say they were in pretty good shape.
MY biggest complaint this season would be the lack of "weekly talent" like that past seasons where the "Pirates Royal" would come play on Pirate weekend. Then the next weekend you would have another performer come in for that weekend. This year it was the same ole gang EVERY weekend. And while they are fine talents all, you can only catch the same old show so many times without it becoming a tad boring. The BEST show of the whole season in my opinion was the Slash/Broon 5:30 show. Truly, the inmates were running the asylum. those two are lunatics...and VERY funny ones.
HANK.

If I remember correctly, it is a 4 person crew making constant rotations around the shire. I've seen them many times. I was even surprised to note that there is a male in the group this season as well. As far as trashed trash recepticals. I'm just going by what I was told by a couple people.

I found the end of the day scheduling horrific. Personally, if they are going to continue scheduling so much at the end, why not dump the "finale in song" and give these poor people a break who have been trying to entertain to zero crowds.
I also believe that the cast coming in at the end and standing in the back talking amongst themselves is distracting, and rude to the professionals on stage. I did not think the cast was as great as they think they were......i'm sorry but there was little interaction, and frankly they seem to clique together, or with those playtrons who they are close too, but I'll stop there, I know far too many here covet them, but I was disappointed.
There was a lack of acts. Understood for varying reasons, but still, by the 3rd weekend, I stopped coming both days.

To Been there...
I am very sorry that you feel the way you do. You are entitled to your opinion. I don't think your comments are entirely correct.
However, I have been going to our faire for 8 years now. This year I went 4 weekends. I think the cast was the best and the largest in many years. You can't judge them by just one point in time, that is not fair. You have to take a look at their overall performance. What if you saw a cast member not interacting but they were on a break. You might not know this, so it is not fair to judge them by just single observations.
In fact both the King and especially our Queen this year were superior. Every time I saw the Queen she was interacting with the people and especially the kids. She even gave out little items to the kids. I can't say enough about her grand talent as an actress. She could do well on boradway in NYC with her skills. As for the resty of the cast, they did so much interacting and many of the towns people were very funny as were the Fae too. The seemstress, the baker, Templer Grand Master Lucus even William Wallace and his clan did so much to go out of their way to make people happy and interact. Were you at the same faire that I attended?
I will respect your opinion but I truely believe you are not correct. Our CAST this year was super great and actually overcame high temps during much of the weekends and still did a good job.
I also do not think that the acts were playing to zero crowds as you state. Many of the shows I attended were full. There really was not a lack of entertainment. The browdy babes, DeVinchi, Dueling Swords, Hopeless romantics ( last two years King Author) were new acts this year and were great. The girls chior directed by Kara was superior and a surprize as well. So was the mixed chorus and the guys chorus although hate me.. the girls chours was by far the very best.
In conclusion, I Thank each and every one of our cast and the faire crews ( parking, Hank & Bun, trash trolls, security the list goes on and on) for a job well done!!!!!
Larry you did good under very hard conditions this year...Thanks for providing this high quality medieval faire opportunity to us each year.

May we continue to have King Richard and Queen Barengaria. Both are very very approachable.
I'm very proud of both.but I'm partial:)

Sir Michael, i'm not going to argue my points or defend myself, but I wanted to point out that the zero crowd comment was for the finale in song, not the acts during the day.

You are entitled to your opinion. Weather it is a popular position, or not. As long as that is what you believe, then it is a valid point to bring up. While it is true that many of us have had lots of fun seeing and being a part of cast bits, I am sure there are also those that fail to run across much that catches there eye. And if we continue to argue with people with those points of view, then they will refrain from speaking up. It is great that so many want to stick up for the cast. But without honest critiques from many differing perspectives, then how TPTB be able to make changes and tweaks to how things work, so even more people can have an enjoyable time at faire.

About the finale in song. I can't really give any exact assesments, as we really don't go. Not really our thing. At the end of the day, if I am going to a show, I want to be entertained. While listening to some of our great musical acts is nice, it isn't really entertaining anymore. It just isn't the old pub sing that many of us loved and greatly miss. Hasn't been for several years now. And now that we have some options at the end of the day, we choose those instead.
As for the cast stangind at the back and being distracting. What else would you have them do? They have to be there. So, better to be in the back so as not to bother those sitting up front who want to see the show and hear the perfromers. The back area of pub sing has always been an area for people to gather at the end of the day and talk about the day. See some people being goofy, and generally wind down before the cannon fires. And that goes back to the days at Stumble as well. Seating up front is for those who want the show. Standing in the back is for those who are there that have no where else to gather to finish off the day.

Pub sing...Let's see...It's still at the end of the day...Menagerie is still running it...All the music acts still play there...The patrons and cast still gather there...Owen is even still singing "Health" there...The King still says goodbye there... What exactly is different from the good old days??? -Just the location! Those who won't attend because it's at the Drift and not the Stumble show they don't really care to support all the hard working and talented musicians who play all day and then play again at the end of the day. I personaly think that is pretty disrespectful. Of course you can do as you want, it's just too bad you choose to ignore such an honored tradition as the Finale in Song because it was moved somewhere else. After this season, I think it should probably just be canceled.

What exactly is different from the good old days??? -Just the location! Nope. The location doesn't bother me too much. What is missing is having all the other acts up there. The spontaneity, the never knowing what crazy and hilarious thing they would do next. I'm talking about back when they would get Johnny, and Isaac, and one of the Tortugas, the Wenches, and even some of the guest performers to come up on stage and entertain. When things were a little out of control, and just a bit more on the adult side with the humor. It's probably been 5 years or more since it was really fun. And I know a lot of those performers have moved on. I'm not trying to take anything away from who plays there now. The talent is amazing, and they do an outstanding job at what they do. But what they we have now is not what I enjoyed about pub sing. I liked the mix of music and performance. I liked the livelier, and rowdier tunes that used to be played. I liked the insanity and the apparent chaos of throwing all those people on one stage and seeing what they would come up with. Which is why since we discoverd it, we have opted for the final Danger Slash show of the day/ It has been the closest thing to the old pub sing that I loved in a loooong time.

I understand what Trevor is saying. I go to Pub Sing every weekend. I miss the spontaneity of everyone just popping up on stage and having fun. It didn't just used to be the musical groups. (Which are excellent. Nothing against them.) It used to be if Axel was singing, the Wenches would be up on stage dancing behind him.(Well, kind of dancing) A juggler or two would pop up and play around. Acts like that. It has nothing to do with the location. It is the atmosphere of the whole sing. It doesn't seem to "pop" anymore. I still enjoy it because my friends are there and we can listen to good music but it can get a little boring now. I would like to see Pub Sing continue. It is still a great way to end the Faire day.
While we are on Pub Sing: I can see what BTDT means about the cast. They do group together in the back and talk and play amongst themselves. They used to play in the stands during Pub Sing and get people to dance or sing along. (I know the Choir has gotten up to sing and they are very good.) Only a couple go into the stands. I understand that some are not available until after Sing has started and they do eventually show up. They don't get involved with the patrons at Sing as much as they used to. I just miss it.
The new cast members have gotten a little better at engaging the patrons. I have noticed a little more playing in the lanes. They seem more comfortable lately. There also seems to be more patrons dancing this year. (Or it could be the large cast ) Bob and Shawna are very good as King and Queen. They interact with everyone. My Mom-in-Law loved Bob stepping out of parade to kiss her hand. Anita-Stitch is very funny. The Potter keeps you smiling all day. I don't know how Heather makes it around the Faire before the parade, but it is fun to see where she will end up next. It was nice to see Abby Normal this past weekend.
I do miss the the visiting acts for themed weekend but I understand it was hard this year. All the stage acts have been wonderful. The last shows for Scott, Spencer and Brian are very funny. But, after a few weeks of the same shows, I visit more with friends. Which is perfectly fine for me.
