I've made my comment as a township resident - I suggest others do the same.

I wish I were a resident, Chris.
I do know this article is, in my opinon, not written very clearly.....it DOES make it seem it's over monetary reasons, and if the transient vendors license were indeed around for years, why is it that the signed resolution on their site reflects signatures from 2009 (June, 2009), and it doesn't refer to the years of lawsuits that have been plaguing the faire.

I have made a 2nd comment on Star Beacon site - hopefully it will appear soon. It includes link to the resolution & current zoning text. this IS a NEW resolution. "Clay said the resolution isn’t new to the township books, but the township has taken a new interest in enforcing it." Mr Clay - SHAME ON YOU - I consider a resolution signed by the township trustees on JUNE 25TH 2009 to be a NEW resolution. Perhaps you think myself and other residents can't read. It is very clear to me that this is a new resolution and quite different from the previous transient vendors resolution! Anyone wishing to read these documents is invited to go to trumbulltownship.org/Zoning_and_Zoning_Appeals.html where they are available in their entirety.

It's really unfortunate Mr. McMahan feels this way. I hope a good number of residents from Trumbull Township make their voices heard - at the meeting and at the polls. It's also unfortunate that there's so much energy and tax payer dollars put into driving the faire away, and that it seems to be personal. I've been to several other festivals that have the overwhelming support of the surrounding communities and those communities benefit from the extra money coming in. Of course, not being a Trumbull Township resident, my opinion means nothing so I guess the point is moot. If the faire is shut down then I will keep myself and my money out of Ashtabula county and will urge others to do the same.

“I think the trustees would listen to anything anyone has to say if it came from people who live in our township,” he said. “I don’t really care about people from Tennessee, Indiana or New York who come in and try to sell stuff for seven weeks a year.”
How short sighted and small minded can you get? What about the people who come from Tennessee, Indiana, New York, Maryland, Canada, Connecticut, Pennsylvania who SPEND MONEY in their township? If the Faire goes, so does their money and what I've been told is money talks...think they would hear that or is this just a matter of cutting off their noses to spite their face?

Well, I had to put my two cents in when I saw that comment about not caring about what people from out of state who want to come and sell things have to say.....because I am not coming in to sell....I come in to SPEND in his township, and we usually spend plenty. And we want to continue to be able to spend....so, I am sure hoping all the township residents are making sure they are heard!
I posted quite a while ago, so they must read them over before posting. Hmmm.

Am I reading the article incorrectly? As the faire is only open weekends in July and August, and, if I'm reading it right, the resolution prohibits transient vendors from operating from November through April, I'm not seeing how this could be used to keep anyone from selling during the summer as long as the fee is paid (assuming even that is legal, which I know is up for debate) and they operate within the defined hours.

All these posts are great but, you write them thinking the local trumbull residents are reading (or even know about) them. How is the word actually getting out to the regular people? I know there are a couple of newspaper articles out there (though not as informative as they should/could be), but this site has so much more info. I am just afraid we are under a false sense of security when we post here. Will there be as many people as we think at the meeting tomorrow? I sure hope so. Will the media even show up?

heh.. I put a comment up giving the link to the resolution and to the ORC.. Showing that it's the ORC that was updated 3 years ago, and taht the resolution was from June 25, 2009. .. I submitted it around 10:30AM. It has yet to post on the site, 3 hours later...
(Edit: HA! Just after I posted this, I went to the tab with the Resolution.. And had an alert from Adobe Acrobat saying "Too many arguments", and firefox locked up and had to end... I just thought that very funny!)

Oh, I'm sure there's a perfectly reasonable explanation why the posts aren't coming through.... Hmmm...could it be that "Freedom of the Press" has hit a glitch?

Oh, I'm sure there's a perfectly reasonable explanation why the posts aren't coming through.... Actually there is. The comments section is moderated. Each post get reviewed first before it is actually posted on the site. Some don't make it, and others get edited a bit. It's actually a good thing. Otherwise, you would not believe what the comment deteriorate to. Should have seen when they used to have a message board.
