This is the Prologue to the book I've been working on for a couple years now. It's called The Power of Three: The Quest for Excalibur. (book 1 in the trilogy.)
RING! RING!
“All right, all right, take your seats now.” The teacher, an older man with long gray hair and beard slowly sat down behind his desk. His bones ached now. He was not as strong as he used to be in his prime, which was a very long time ago. He surveyed his students as they talked and laughed while taking their seats. They were only a month away from graduating and leaving to become adults. The teacher gave a small smile; his students worked hard this past year. He was pleased with them. He took the time to look around the stone classroom inside the mighty castle as his students settled themselves. The fireplace in the back held a fire that warmed the entire room comfortably. The posters and pictures on the walls were of great men and women over the ages from both worlds: King Arthur Pendragon, Martin Luther King, Jr., King David Pendragon, Eleanor Roosevelt, and more. “You do not need your textbooks today,” the teacher said, noticing that the students were pulling them out and opening them to the chapter they had been covering. “There’s nothing in them concerning what I am about to tell you.” The students exchanged glances. This was new. “What do you mean, Professor?” asked a curly, brown haired girl sitting in the front row.
“I think it is time to let the legend live on once again,” said the professor, smoothing down his thick green robes.
“Legend, Professor?” questioned a boy with blonde hair in the third row, “What legend do you speak of?”
“Do you mean King Arthur?” said the boy’s friend. “We already know all about him.”
“No, no,” he said, “I do not speak of the legend of King Arthur, but of the Chosen Ones of Camelot. The Protectors as they were called.”
A girl sitting in the last row raised her hand. Her hair was strawberry blond in color, and her hazel eyes were shy yet held a knowing glint.
“I’ve heard of them before. They attended this school a long time ago, right?”
The teacher smiled and nodded. Anna had always been his best student. His eyes lingered for a moment on the necklace around her neck. “Yes. You are correct Miss Black,” he said. “They did attend Ludus Avalonia, but for only less than a year before the devastating attack.” he cleared his throat. “Now how should I start-oh yes. Once upon a time…”

I Declare Shenaningin's
How cruel to begin a good story and leave us in the dark.
Seriously though, as a prologue its perfect! It lays down a framework for the story and leaves the reader wanting to turn the page as quickly as possible to discover more. Well done!

It was early morning, and the sun was just rising above the horizon casting a purple and pink hue in the soft clouds. A woman with long, pure white hair stood at the entrance to a cave embedded in the Great Mountains, looking over the bright land of New Britannia. Down below was a very green forest that was alive with chirping birds and other forest animals. The woman’s navy blue dress swirled in the gentle breeze that swept over her. She leaned on the side of the stone and sighed, her warm blue eyes held tiredness and exhaustion. She turned her head sharply as footsteps echoed from behind her.
A man wearing thick brown wizard’s robes approached her. His hair was a light brown and reached an inch below his shoulders. The top layer of his thin hair was tied back and he clutched a gnarled staff in his right hand. On top of the staff was a crystal ball surrounded by a sterling silver phoenix and wood from the staff.
“He’s getting stronger,” the woman said in her delicate voice, “isn’t he?”
“Yes,” the man answered in a gentle, deep voice. “I’m afraid he is. I fear it won’t be long until Ector invades Camelot again.”
The woman sighed again and folded her arms across her chest. “What are we going to do? Our hope is wasting away.”
“We must never lose our hope,” said the man. He paused a moment before speaking again. “The girls are now coming of age. It is time they returned.”
“But how can we be sure they are going to be safe?” said the woman with concern. “They narrowly escaped fourteen years ago.”
“Yes, I know,” said the man. “I have talked with David and the Knights. We have taken extra precaution to make sure of their safety while they are training for what is to come. Eventually however, they will have to fight, Vivienne.”
The woman called Vivienne took in a deep, shaky breath, let it go slowly, and moved her gaze toward the forest below. The sunlight was growing brighter by each passing minute and the clouds moved lazily across the sky.
“When do you plan to tell them?” she asked quietly.
“I am leaving tonight,” the man answered. “I will send word of our return as soon as possible.”
“Are you sure they are going to be safe this time?” said Vivienne, looking at the man with her blue eyes. “They’re all we have.”
“Life doesn’t have any guarantees, my lady,” said the man, but there was a small twinkle in his gray eyes. “But have no fear. Ector and his forces will be destroyed in due time.” He bowed; then disappeared with a puff of white smoke. The woman turned to New Britannia once again.
“I do hope you’re right, Merlin,” she whispered into the wind.
Thank you for your replies^.^ They make me smile.

Chapter 1: The Chosen Ones
“Emma! Breakfast is ready! Get down here before I eat it!” Emma Knight, a 17-year-old girl with long brown hair, kept neat in a braid, rolled her dark brown eyes at her nine month older brother and sat down her brush and turned off her radio which was playing E Muzeki, a musical group from the local medieval faire. She stood from in front of her vanity, where she had been braiding her hair, and crossed her room. She picked up her book bag from her bed and grabbed her purse. She turned off her light, exited her room and descended the stairs into the kitchen. She took a seat next to her brother at the table and sat her book bag on the floor next to her chair. “Good morning, Emma,” said her father before taking a sip of his coffee. He was a tall man, with a brown beard, and broad shoulders. “Morning, Dad,” Emma said as her mother placed a plate in front of her, which was filled with ham, eggs, and toast. “Thanks, Mom. Smells good.” Mrs. Knight, a kind woman with blue eyes, smiled at her daughter as she poured orange juice into Emma’s glass. Once Emma and her brother Michael had their food, Mrs. Knight took a seat next to her husband and began to start on her breakfast. “Emma, you do remember that I have you and Michael working after school today?” Mr. Knight asked fixing his navy tie. “I have a meeting with the entertainment directors at the local medieval faire this afternoon, and I need you to help run the store." The Knights owned a small store called KNIGHTS which sold various historical items. They sold things from clothing to weapons to books. Mr. Knight made most of the armor and weapons with help from Michael and Eddie Stokes, an employee. KNIGHTS made out very well despite what rumors were heard. “Yes, Dad,” said Emma, “you told me like three times last night.” “Just checking,” he winked at his daughter and took a bite of his eggs.

Meanwhile, a few roads away Ariadne Evans was turning up the stereo in her room because the band Poison began to play. She flipped her curly red hair over her head and then back again, spraying it with some hairspray to tame some fly away hair. She shook her head and took a look in her full length mirror. She had decided to wear a black Aerosmith t-shirt (her favorite band) with jeans ripped in the knees and a black pair of Chuck Taylors. She wore no make-up. Just the way she liked it. She nodded in approval and quietly sang along with the song. She accidentally stumbled on a book that was lying on her cluttered floor. “Crap,” she mumbled, picking up the book. She was supposed to have returned the book to the library a week ago. “Mom’s gonna kill me.” “Ariadne! Turn that down!” She heard her father yell from across the hall. She rolled her eyes and obeyed, but only just a little. It was Poison after all. She grabbed her watch from her nightstand and placed it around her wrist. It was light green in color and the face was a pale yellow. It was a gift from her friend Ashley before she had moved to Alabama a year ago. “Ariadne!” came her mother’s voice. “You don’t want to be late for school!” Grumbling, Ariadne turned off her radio and picked up her book bag and purse, knocking over an empty water bottle in the process. Her mother was waiting for her as she descended the stairs. “What?” Ariadne asked, noticing the look on Mrs. Evans face. “Did you clean your room liked I asked you to?” she asked. “Maybe,” Ariadne mumbled stepping around her mother and crossing the living room to the front door. “Ariadne, you had better clean that room when you get home today,” said Mrs. Evans. “You can barely see the floor anymore.” “Fine,” said Ariadne opening the door. “I’ll clean it when I come home from work. Bye Dad!” “Goodbye!” came her father’s call from up the stairs. “Later Mom,” she said as she exited the house behind her.
