Thanks Mitch. Camping was ok. Not a lot of down-time for me though. Friday, I mowed the grass out there and then took a nap (since I had been up since the day before). Went visiting a few people later, but then it got kind of cold, so we headed back to the camper. Only to find the furnace wouldn't light. So I worked on that for a bit, but eventually gave up. Saturday I tore it appart and thought I found the problem, but still didn't work. Then I went for site clean-up. Back to the camper and ate, then me and a couple of the guys worked on leveling the camper. So nice to be able to walk in it without things shaking of shelves, or the walls. Then I played with the furnace some more, and went visiting again. This morning we hung out at another camper with friends to visit, then went to the Andover flea market, then back home.

Well.... I know, "let sleeping dogs lie" but, I must defend myself since some are pretty much ready to kill me with every available sword in the shire, AND labeled me names (that's not very nice.......); AND as a supporter of the festival for 12 years, I am EXTREMELY offended. My commentary was on marketing opportunities. Never once did I point out anything directly at one person.......from what I'm reading that was flamed back me, (yes, yes it was) I NEVER said anything to do with entertainment, or entertainment director. Now, it would be nice if everyone would please cut me some slack, and not my veins............... Secondly, GPRF is without a home. Am I making what some appear to think is light of the situation....no. Very wonderful, hardworking people lost their faire, and their life savings, and it's disheartening to me.......I would like to see GLMF host all those misplaced souls and show them a great time. Face it, we are very close to PA, and they MAY want to come to our faire....why is that being opportunistic? I would think we would invite all in with open arms, I'd be more than happy to welcome them, I can't see how inviting them in to share the fun is being opportunistic. With that said, I do really hope you all have a great time at the faire this year.

Wyldfire - if you took my comments as an attack, I am sorry. I just saw some statements that I had to add my 2 cents to.
And though you are correct, you never did say anything about entertainment. A lot of the things you brought up actually do involve the entertainment director. As with any small business, employees wear many hats, and are involved with decisions of other departments.

With that said, I do really hope you all have a great time at the faire this year. Lighten up? You just did, by flaming our comments. Again...I have to agree with Wyldfire. We are permitted to express our opinions on here aren't we? If we are expected to get flamed for every comment that is made, then why bother posting? If we are negative, it is for good reason. Why is it that after 12 years, this faire still can't communicate to the patrons effectively? No matter the E.D., this still goes one, so that eliminates John, Brook, and whomever else. It starts at the top. If certain cast members are offended by our comments, so be it. Not once were our comments directed towards the cast members. And they really should not speaking on behalf of those we are directing our comments towards. It puts them directly in line of fire that isn't intended for. This is where the bad feelings start and is not intended or wanted. Like Wyldfire, my comments were more directed to the misuse of marketing, not entertainment. Now if entertainment and marketing are run by the same person (John/Hack), them shame on Larry. No wonder things fall through the cracks. I think that is just too much for one person to handle efficiently. If John can handle both, fine..then yes the results will not be seen until next season. As for this season, by the time John was brought on board, the marketing and entertainment should have been established already and he is just to see it through and make adjustments and plans for fixing next season. Clearly, this season, John has walked into a quagmire and that's the predecessor's fault. How is wanting information being spoiled? It should be expected! If the website was updated regularly, then we wouldn't expect Brook/John to post on here. We would rather whine and complain about other things like, poor food, warm ale, smelly people...something more light-hearted. You get what you pay for (website)? Then hire a internet company to manage the site, pay them an annual fee and feed them information as it becomes available. They will automatically update the website. How hard it is to order 2006 stickers? When ordering yearly stickers, order 10 years in advance based on your highest average season pass purchases. If you don't use them, big deal...what's a roll cost? $50? Chump change for Larry I am sure. Oh well...only 25 more days...I am just looking forward to being at my summer "home" regardless.

You can tell it's getting close to faire season. The natives are getting restless. Yes, SirGeoffrey you are allowed to post your opinions. Though I think we have a differing definition of being flamed. I addressed the comments, and not the poster. (Never even mentioned who said what). Actually, I didn't care who said it. I just wanted to post my views on certain points. Not saying my views are 100 % correct, or that your views are 100% wrong. You and I butt heads all the time. You are a 'glass is half empty' kind of guy and I am a 'glass is half full' kind of guy. It is only natural that we don't see eye to eye on things. Doesn't mean I like you any less. I know I am not going to change your mind, and I don't try to. But I am going to post my point of view. Because, like you, I like to have my say. And on that note, I am off to go to bed. I've been up for going on 29 hours now, and am looking at another 14 hour work day tonight/tomorrow. So I am a bit cranky and might actually say something I will regret. I'll be back on tonight to see what other mischief I can cause

Well, as a NW PA-ite, I often think that our market could do with a bit more GLMF advertising....so seeing an unexpected announcement in our paper (like the one that started this thread), would be great. I do, however, understand the constraints of budgets and time. That said, I haven't seen a faire billboard here yet. It would also be nice to hear a radio spot (although it looks like the Ohio Clear Channel stations are sponsors of the faire, and Erie is a Next Media market, so there maybe some conflicts there? ), or see a write-up in the Erie paper. But I guess it IS early....especially when you're not...well....US, who look forward to faire all year. As for the website....a web presence is a double-edged sword. If you don't have the information that people want, they aren't happy. If you put up the bare-bones info - black text on a white page - people write you off as a half-a**ed operation. And while we "insiders" would be thrilled with the bare bones, a curious first-timer might decide not to visit if the page didn't "sell" the faire. That said, I think perhaps a good strategy at this point would be for GLMF to design a homepage with the basic info - dates, prices, themes, some of the acts, a nice background and a fun picture or 2, and take down the rest of the site. There are too many discrepancies now -- dates that don't jive, the storyline is outdated -- and little things like that can be just as insidious to the overall image. For instance, the homepage has the 2006 dates, but if you go to the FAQ page, the dates are listed for 2005. It isn't a big deal, but it does make you wonder just what the current status of the faire is like. As each part of the site is checked and updated, load 'em back up. (I WISH I could do this where I work, but if I took down the entire library website, I'd be drawn and quartered.) Finally, sarcasm on the web is an oft-misunderstood artform. I've yet to meet a message board where the smiley hasn't caused problems at some point. Erin

*Gives Trevor a man-hug* Yeah...yer still alright with me too...we are alot alike actually, not afraid to express our opinions, but yer just more laid back...and that's okay! That's what makes America great.
Group hug anyone else?
And yes....I am getting restless! Oy vey I can't wait to see the how the theme goes this year! I can't wait for my bro-in-law to confuse all the kids and mundane patrons as to who is the real Robin Hood. *snicker* I am going to play along as the false Sheriff of Nottingham if people ask...
Faire is my therapy...

Erin From my understanding, the whole thing is getting an entire revamp. I know. We were told that months ago also. But I have faith in the new webmaster.

I'll group hug, man-hug, whatever - as long as I get hugged.
What was my record again Trevor? You were the last and I'm too lazy to go double-check. =)

I'm too lazy to check too, and Britny is being unco-operative. As far as the hug, sure. Though I would prefer another glomp from Chris like I got on Saturday (better explain this, or those of you out there with dirty minds might get the wrong idea. A glomp is basically a tackle hug)

Hey - I'm a web master.... I didn't know I was a dime-a-dozen. I would love to help if I can. But speaking as a webmaster... here's a problem I have noticed. They can only update a website IF they are given the information to do so..... I have no idea what is going on. I don't want to create waves... but just remember if the webmaster isn't given the information then she/he can't do anything with the the site. Personally I know a few people that aren't getting season passes because sword school won't be there and they just don't feel that there is enough to do/see to justify the $50. I would like to give the faire the benefit of the doubt since we have new management etc etc. this year. I just hope it isn't too late and we don't end up like GPRF.
